  • We have the garden bug. It started with an extra tomato and melon that a friend did not want. Then we picked up a few end of season rejects from the local garden center (peppers, squash etc.), knowing that it was probably too late in the season to expect much from these. The kids had fun planting though.

"What else can we plant?" The kids begged. So we found some cabbage and brussel sprouts...which should do well. Some stevia, which we can bring inside when it gets too cold. Carrots, lettuce and kale seeds which we planted over a week ago.

Lots of little babies popping up. Too many actually. A few days after we planted the carrots we had the following pop up. Thought they were carrots although they did not really look like what baby carrot leaves might look like....any ideas???

A few days later, up come the baby carrots. Can you tell from the mass of babies that the kids enjoyed adding the seeds.

This is a new house for us....not sure what the previous owners planted in the beds except roses and onions.  So these mysterious babies could be flowers or veggies...or weeds I suppose.

This little onion was here before us...I let it go to seed hoping for more.

  • We went camping this past weekend. Our favorite campsite is first come first serve so we planned on getting out there early on Friday. Wouldn't you know....it was already full.   We decided to drive to another campsite a few miles away... prepping the kids for a simple day out hiking and then a trip back home to sleep. This site also had a "Camp is full" sign, but as some areas are reserved at this site, we drove around looking at reservation tags hoping someone had left early. We found one that was reserved for the next day...but not that night.  And it was a beautiful secluded spot.

  • Spent a wonderful day at the beach yesterday...just hanging out with friends. There was a pod of whales swimming about a ways off shore. Very cool to see! Sure wish Crunchy had been there with her professional camera (Actually, I would have been thrilled had she been there without her camera ).

Unfortunatley after the pleasent, breezy day at the beach....we had to return to the house which was 91 degrees inside...ugh.

  • I have been kicked back into xanga land by an old friend who just had to leave a comment on my deserted blog. Thank you Stacycats.

We are all doing well in our wet dreary wonderland...oh wait its not wet right now or dreary. Its darned hot and they have a bad habit up here of building houses without air conditioning.

    temp

The outdoor temp is actually the temp in the one upstairs room with a portable air conditioner. Luckily we have a nice cool basement...that's where my computer sits.

This is where you can usually find the kids...the other one is napping in the cool basement.
